DC’s Pizza, located at 909 Goshen Avenue, Suite C (in the Family Dollar building) in Elkhart, is looking to expand its outreach to the Bristol and Middlebury areas. Specifically, owner Darren Cornell is offering free delivery to Bristol with a $20 minimum order ($50 minimum for Middlebury).

This offer applies to all hours that DC’s Pizza is open, seven days a week: 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday; 12:00 noon to 10:00 p.m. on Sunday. Darren and his office manager, Becca Reese, have concluded that free delivery will satisfy an unmet need in the Bristol and Middlebury areas.

Customers can examine DC’s menu and prices online at dcspizzamenu.webs.com or visit them on Facebook. Orders can be placed by phone at 333-2900, by FAX at 333-2897, or by e-mail at dcspizza.elkhart@gmail.com. Limited seating is available for those who want to dine at the Goshen Avenue facility.

Darren lists some of things that differentiate DC’s Pizza from its competition: 1) all crusts are hand-tossed, including New York thin and Chicago deep dish; 2) a blend of four cheeses is used on every pizza (seven varieties on the specialty cheese pizza), and 3) Darren hand slices his own pepperoni, which has never been frozen and contains no preservatives.

In addition to pizza, DC’s offers sandwiches and a limited Mexican menu, which includes a “phenomenal” homemade salsa from ModMex restaurant. Darren notes that his meatballs are homemade, his sausage is hand-ground, and he personally spices his sausage daily. He uses deli style meats from Hickory Meats & More in Elkhart, something, he claims, which “nobody else in the industry does.”

Darren and Becca invite all Bristol area residents to stop in when they are in Elkhart, or try their free delivery service.

Seven members of the LoveWay staff recently visited Greencroft and ADEC in Middlebury to spread Christmas cheer. Along with Goliath, one of their therapeutic ponies, they went door-to-door singing Christmas carols to the residents. “Caroling gives us an opportunity to give back to the community in our own way. We have been very blessed this year and this is our way of saying thank you,” says Daryl Abbott, Executive Director.

Maggie Korenstra and Chris Stice of LoveWay pose with Goliath during a recent Christmas Caroling outing.
Staff attends National Conference

Lexington, Kentucky was host to 777 members of the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.) this past November 9-12. Among the attendees were LoveWay’s Program Manager, Jessica Shelner; Volunteer Coordinator, Aimee Miller; Equine Manager, Maggie Korenstra; and Instructor, Chris Stice. Session topics ranged from yoga on horseback, to parasite control, to fundraising and marketing, to research on the affect of therapeutic riding on autism. LoveWay is a Premier Accredited Center of Path, Int. and all their instructors are certified through this organization. The staff received two grants from the Indiana Youth Institute to attend this conference.

Now looking for new volunteers

MIDDLEBURY- LoveWay, Inc. Therapeutic Equestrian Services is looking for new volunteers that are interested in helping with a new semester of classes that will begin the week of January 23rd and run through May 5th. Those that would like to volunteer can attend one of the following trainings: January 10th 10am-12pm, January 12th 6pm-8:30pm; January 17th 6-8:30pm, or January 19th 10am-12:30pm.

Volunteers will help once per week helping children and adults with special needs as they learn to groom, tack, and ride their horse. LoveWay’s riders require around 150 volunteers each semester as some may require the help from up to three people each lesson. Volunteers ensure the safety of the rider and assist them with balance, focus, or concentration skills as needed.

New volunteers that attend the training will be given a tour of the facility and learn how to groom, tack, and lead a horse in a hands-on learning environment. The training will instruct them on the proper procedures for safely working with the horses and what to expect when helping the students. Prior knowledge of horses is not required but those interested should be at least 16 years old. Volunteer opportunities are available during the daytime, evening, and on Saturday mornings.

LoveWay, Inc. provides therapeutic horseback riding for individuals with special needs in the Elkhart County area. If you would like to volunteer for the spring semester of classes, contact Aimee Miller, Volunteer Coordinator (574) 825-5666 or info@lovewayinc.org.
