Emily Congdon of Bristol was crowned queen of the 2009 Bristol Homecoming. This was the second time that Emily, 16, had entered the contest for Homecoming Queen. She lives in Bristol with her parents, Chris and Pam, and her sisters, Sarah and Madeline.
It must have been satisfying to the family to see Emily in the queen pageant at Congdon Park, on land that was donated 25 years ago to the town of Bristol by Emily’s grandparents, Earl and Ann Congdon, who still live nearby.
Many will recall that the original Congdon settlers came to Bristol in the 1880s. For several generations Emily’s ancestors were proprietors of the Congdon Drugstore in downtown Bristol.
Emily was sponsored in the queen pageant by Kruse Farm Supply. She played the piano in the talent competition. All contestants took part in the evening gown competition and were interviewed by the contest judges.
Emily will be a junior at Elkhart Central High School in the fall. She plans to enter college after graduation, hoping to pursue studies in business, hospitality, and tourism.
Some of the activities already lined up for the recently crowned queen include helping with the summer reading program at the Bristol Public Library and taking part in the Fun Fair at Bristol Elementary School next spring.
Emily used words like “surprised” and “un-expected” to describe her reaction to winning the title of 2009 Homecoming Queen. She is “really thankful” to all those who supported her in the recent contest.
