Bristol Town Marshal’s Report – July 2009

mike-swallow-s We would like to remind everyone of personal safety when using legal fireworks.  Town ordinance limits use of legal fireworks, firecrackers, or other explosive devices between 5:00 pm until 2 hours after sunset on June 29, 30, July 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 9.  July 4th and December 31st the hours permit to fire are 10:00 am through 1:00 am the following day.
Summer vacation brings our children out and about.  School is out so please drive cautiously, obeying laws and signs.

With summer here and with the improved weather we are seeing an increase in driving speeds. We would like to remind everyone that our children are out playing, riding their bicycles and walking to school.  Drive defensively, obey traffic laws, and always remember to wear your safety restraints.  Our officers as well as officers throughout the county and state continue with extra patrols targeting hazardous violations, impaired drivers and safety restraint violations.  These efforts are funded by Federal and State traffic safety grants with special emphasis over Memorial Day weekend.  The purpose of these patrols is to encourage and enforce compliance and reduce vehicle crashes and personal injury.

Our cases were up in June.  We remind everyone to use safety, secure your home and vehicles.  Most important, be watchful of your neighborhood and please report any suspicious activity or what appears out of place to you.  Also be guarded on giving any important personal information over the phone or internet.  Be sure you know who you are talking to and dealing with.  Frauds continue to rise.  Remember if it looks or sounds to good to be true, it probably is.  These types of cases continue to increase.  Be watchful of bank and charge accounts.  Report any noted activity immediately to your banking institution and police department.

During the construction of SR 15, please follow proper detours, allow extra time for travel and remember to be patient.  It will only last a few months and the roadway will be much improved they tell us.

Ordinance violations continue.  We thank all those who have already corrected violations and continue to correct and improve.  Anyone having questions, please call or stop by the police department and get a copy of the ordinance for nuisance or any other ordinance.  We have given thank you letters for those who have complied.  Parents also remember the curfew ordinance for those 17 and under.
